Safely Dispose of Old Computers
According to the National Safety Council about 315 million computers weighing 8.5 million tons will be obsolete by 2004. All electronics contain hazardous, bio-accumulative materials, and the EPA recommends consumers should take special care when disposing of their old computers.
Maryland is participating in an "eCylcing" partnership with Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington D.C. The eCycling program, overseen by Region III of EPA, recycles computers, computer peripheral equipment and televisions. Permanent eCycling drop-off sites and schedules mobile collections are available at the Maryland Department of Environment website
