The board investigates all the complaints it receives. Small complaints take a several weeks to resolve, while serious complaints may take several months of review.

The Board also provides consumers with information about licensing and about which doctors have been charged or sanctioned. Licensing/sanction information is available on the www.docboard.org/md/default.htm web site, under the “Search for a Provider” section. If a doctor has been subject to disciplinary action a note will appear under the “Public Order” section of her biographical information.

The Health Claims Arbitration Office was created to provide a forum for arbitration in medical malpractice suits over $25,000. The Health Claims Arbitration Office will also answer request for information about physicians from individuals and from hospitals and HMOs.
