Comments:   The Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA) helps resolve complaints concerning all form of insurance coverage—Life, Property, Casualty, Health.

The MIA has jurisdiction to regulate all insurance companies issuing policies to Maryland residents. If the policy/contract was issued in another state, Maryland Law does not generally apply. Try to contact the Insurance Regulator in the state of issue to resolve problems with policies issued in other states.

Complaints may be submitted using the complaint forms found at http://www.mdinsurance.state.md.us/jsp/consumer/FileComplaint.jsp10, or the consumer may submit a letter detailing the complaint. Please make sure you include copies of all necessary documents when you submit your complaint form or letter.  Documents you provide may be forwarded to the insurer the complaint is about.

Consumers should expect the MIA’s investigation of their case to take at least 8-12 weeks.
