Comments: To file a general complaint about Health plans, insurers and HMOs, consumers should contact the Maryland Insurance Administration. All complaints must be sent in writing, and include

 

·   consumer’s name,

·   name of person on policy,

·   mailing address,

·   day phone name,

·   name and phone of physician,

·   insurance company,

·   policy number, and

·   documentation pertaining to the problem.

A MIA investigator will acknowledge receipt of the consumer’s request, obtain details for review and provide the consumer with a written response from unit when available.  

Under Maryland law, consumers can appeal decisions made by insurers who deny medically necessary care. The Maryland Insurance Administration can order insurers to provide medically necessary coverage.
